Not seen this yet but it's in the National Rail Museum at York
- This train is LNER 4-6-2 A4Class Number 4468.
- Built in 1936 at Doncaster.
- This loco was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley.
- The weight of the locomotive 102 ton 19 cwt
- Driving wheel diasmeter 6.8"
- Boiler Pressure 250 lb / sq in.
- Locomotive inventory number 1975-707.
On July 03rd 1938 the locomotive MALLARD broke the worlds fastest steam record of 126 mph a record that so far has not been beaten
apparently Sir Nigel Gressley only ran the train at the speed above to see how fast it would go and apparently I read somewhere that he only did this to see what speed she could do and when this was done apparently she had to be overhaulled and some new parts jad to be fitted
